A Brief History
Pioneer Bible Camp was founded in 1949 by John and Lucile Kushnerik. These evangelists were working in the area northeast of Edmonton and had a hand in planting several churches that are still active today. They were holding so many tent meetings, that founding and building a camp just became a logical step. They would both go on to lead and serve the camp together for almost 50 years, and then Lucile on her own for several more years after John’s passing in December of 1998.
Pioneer is set on a beautiful and protected piece of land that John Kushnerik had picked out himself. It has always been a place where God’s Word is taught in different ways throughout the day, and our non-denominational stance allows us to be a place of unity for members of different churches.
When you come to Pioneer, you will see the beauty and enjoy the seclusion. Being on the shore of Hanmore Lake also allows for boating and swimming options on warm summer days. Kids come out here to be discipled in their faith journey, and to be introduced to Jesus Christ for the first time. Fun isn’t the ultimate goal, it just comes out as we intentionally and creatively reach kids for Christ!
